Vegas Rock Dog Radio Guest Will Edwards

I was very fortunate to become friends with Will Edwards after a mutual friend of ours made an introduction. I am oh so grateful for that intro as we have become friends….friends that laugh a lot. Will Edwards is the host of Las Vegas’ ONLY late night variety show The Will Edwards Show that currently airs on Cox channel 12 MYLVTV with repeat episodes on Youtube. Me and my husband were guests on Will’s show and to say it was fun was an understatement.

Today was my pleasure to have Will on my show and as I predicted it would probably be hard to keep on topic. He has this uncanny way of making you feel like you’re in the Will bubble. In that bubble you are so relaxed and so yourself that you never know where the conversation will go. We had a great hour talking about his career, his cats, and other topics.

Many of you have followed the re-branding of the Hot Diggity Dog Radio Show to Vegas Rock Dog Radio. It took a couple of weeks to make that happen smoothly before the premiere show. November 9th was the launch of the new format and I couldn’t have been more thrilled than to have Nina Radetich as my guest.

Nina is someone I’ve tweeted with for many years, she had been in my living room every evening yet we had never met. Nina Radetich was a beloved Las Vegas television personality bringing news into our homes each and every day until she embarked on a new chapter in business. Over a year ago Nina opened New Media Strategies where her company’s passion is your business. They know how to promote your business effectively on sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Foursquare, Pinterest, and Instagram. New Media Strategies is a creative team that delivers a level of service second to none.

Speaking of the team there’s a special member and that is Roxy. She writes the very entertaining company blog and believe me she has an opinion. Roxy came to the studio and I found her to be a lovely soul.

To listen to the show for the first time or once again click here and enjoy the hour we spent talking about pets, babies, social media, and more.

Last week was ones the most fun weekends that I’ve ever experienced. As the owner of Vegas Rock Dog™ Vegas Rock Dog™ and the host of Vegas Rock Dog Radio I got to host my first year anniversary party of the radio show. Event production is one of my fortes and putting Studio Fifty Paw© together was beyond fun. As with all of my events I raise funds for dog rescue and this time it was the for the Las Vegas Hot Diggity Dachshund Club and Rescue

The event was held at Barking Dogs and was a disco Studio Fifty Paw© theme. Local Las Vegas celebrities graced the green grass “red” carpet for photos, then walked through the shimmer curtain into the disco. Celebrity DJ Jimmy Z was spinning the best of disco under the glittering disco ball and lights. The ambiance was fantastic, the lights were low, the music was pumping, the drinks were flowing, the dogs enjoyed their appawtizers, goody bags were given to all the attendees and the raffle table was heaving with people buying tickets for some incredible prizes.

Here’s the video and we hope you’ll join us for the next Studio Fifty Paw©

I was invited to Heather Marianna’s launch event of her newest line for Beauty Kitchen Lucky Luciano’s. Lucky Luciano’s a pet care line inspired by one of her own dogs Luciano.

20130806-124824.jpg
Luciano was rescued from Adopt A Rescue Pet and her pet product line donates 15% of the sales back to the rescue.

Heather is well known for her online tv show Beauty Kitchen where she creates and demonstrates how to take ingredients from your kitchen and make the most effective and luxurious in home spa treatments. Complimenting her popular tv show are her Beauty Kitchen products ranging from scrubs to fizzy bath bombs all of which you can buy online
I tried her acai berry fizzy bath bomb and rose petal sugar scrub this past weekend. The smell of the bath bomb was delicious and my skin was so soft from the scrub. I loved both products.

Galaxy and Thornton were left with the softest fur and smelling absolutely devine.

Funny Bones Sponsor Highlight

Posted in advertize, Celebrities, Charity, Donations, Events, Gifts, Vegas on March 31, 2012 by vegasrockdog1

Each year the Funny Bones Foundation holds it’s annual Sammy Shore’s Funny Bones All Star Comedy Jam. This event just keeps growing and we have some amazing and generous people and companies involved in it. One of those companies is K9 Carry All. I met the owner of the company through Twitter and eventually met at Super Zoo in Vegas. Never underestimate the power of Twitter and other social media platforms. So a simple tweet ended with K9 Carry All making a custom leash/collar for the Funny Bones celebrity swag bags.

We love our pets so much and getting a personalized product makes that product just extra special. The process of supplying K9 Carry All with the Funny Bones logo image, quantity, and shipping was so seamless. It was exciting to open up the box and see how wonderful they looked, the quality was beyond my expectation. Another unique aspect of the product was that is was a collar and leash in one with a hook on the end. You could use it to secure your dog, clip it to a belt while you run, or add another leash to it for extra length. Or even wear it around your neck…wink wink.

The closure was a sturdy one and had a great look too. You can buy regular retail from their store or participate in their wholesale programme if you are a company that needs a walking billboard. I see the custom logos as a great way for rescues to raise funds.

If you love a good quality product that has great function and form then you need to visit K9 Carry All. They carry many other products that I’m sure you will love too!

Thank you K9 Carry All for your support for the Funny Bones Foundation in Vegas.

Shine On Shine Pet Photos

Posted in Adoption, Celebrities, Charity, Funny, Magazines, News, Pet Photography, Rescues, Vegas on June 24, 2010 by vegasrockdog1

I was fortunate to meet and work with Grace Chon of Shine Pet Photos a couple of weeks ago. I got to meet Grace who was voted LA’s Top Pet Photographer through a friend who is a celebrity in the dog world herself and that is Laura Nativo. If you were a fan of CBS’ Greatest American Dog, you will definitely remember the handsome Preston Casanova the furry man in Laura’s life. It was Laura’s email about a Vegas casting for one of Grace’s projects that put me, my husband, and my dogs in front of her camera.

Grace’s project is currently under wraps and I shall update when the time is appropriate, however I wanted to share with you the experience of working with Grace. You know the old saying “Don’t work with children or animals”?, well in this instance Grace needs to keep working with animals as her work is not simply getting a dog to look at a camera, it is art, and it is art that is changing the lives of dogs and their owners.

My rescue dog Thornton was lucky to be cast for Grace’s shoot and what was exciting was the fact that we could choose a location that was personal to me and my dog.  My husband and my furry family are big fans of coffee shops that allow dogs on their patios. My absolute  favourite is Espresso Culture and Cuisine. Being British I miss the aesthetic of European coffee shops and Espresso satisfies that need for me with great design, superior service, and most of all exquisite coffees.

It was an 8am call which for any fashionista is a tall order to fill. I’d brought a few collar selections for Thornton as she is quite the fashionista herself and with Grace’s expertise the pink collar was to be the one. Our request to shoot inside was granted which thrilled us since their decor is fabulous and we were well into triple digit temps in Vegas.

I knew it would be a test for both of my dogs as Thornton was going to be in the shoot with Jim and myself and my Galaxy would be observing. Vanessa, Grace’s colleague on the project had the task of keeping Miss Galaxy comfortable and relaxed while we did our shoot. I have to tell you it didn’t feel like a shoot at all. We stepped away from giving commands and the “leash” was handed over to Grace who had a super sweet way of getting Miss Thornton to move the way she needed. Grace had my girl focused yet relaxed and Thornton was happy to please her. Similarly Vanessa was doing the same for Galaxy who warmed up to her in an instant. You would have thought that with the early morning coffee drinker traffic, hissing and popping coffee machines, music, and a stranger directing your dog; that a hope for the best approach would be adopted. Despite these many distractions it was easy to see how Grace has earned her reputation. Her aura and communication skills are off the chart….she had us all sucked into her world including the staff and regulars who were super buzzed about that a shoot as unusual as this was happening in their neighbourhood coffee shop…and coffee probably played a part in the buzz too.

I have to say I was proud of both of my dogs as it had to be challenging for them and I was relieved that we didn’t have any embarassing moments that would ban me from my home away from home…ha ha. We got to look in the camera at some of the shots and we were amazed. Grace’s photography is of a level that is real, real life settings, real life emotions, and the capture of the very real personalities and souls . The goal isn’t to get all parties in the shoot to look at the camera at once and snap away; it’s to capture a moment in time that will leave a lasting impression and showcase the unique personality of your pet that you would recognize in an instant. Contrived is in no way a part of Grace’s work. We were honoured to have had this experience with her…personally it was the highlight of my year.

Grace’s work goes beyond the camera as she also zooms in on pet rescue and flashes a light on an ever growing problem. She takes her weekends to take head shots of rescue dogs in various rescues known as her “Extreme Dog Makeovers“. These photographs are powerful in getting the dogs adopted….her Extreme Dog Makeovers are responsible for many adoptions and fairy tale endings for both dog and owner.

If there was a way to describe GRACE  it  would be:

Gifted + Rare + Artistic + Compassionate + Engaging!

Please pay a visit to Grace’s site and see the full scope of her company Shine Pet Photos and her blog is certainly worth subscribing to if you are in love with dogs, rescue or photography.

Rescue Dog to Move into Swanky White House Digs

Posted in Adoption, Celebrities, News, Rescues with tags , on February 27, 2009 by vegasrockdog1

superstock_1439r-9909391

There’s going to be one lucky Portuguese Water Dog moving into the White House. The greatest part of this story is that the Obama’s new dog is going to come from a rescue.  As with anyone in the public eye like the Obama family there is always a swell of people wanting to follow in their footsteps. Remember the rise of Chihuahua purchases after Paris Hilton was seen out and about with her many dogs. Well, The Portuguese Water Dog is a breed that needs plenty of exercise as this dog has great stamina, it can out think it’s owner so it needs to be well trained, and they are notorious chewers. The last thing that needs to happen out of the Obama’s adoption is a rise in people wanting a Portuguese Water Dog that is not suited for their lifestyle resulting in more abandoned dogs. There could however also be a flip side and that is if a shelter dog is cool enough for the President it’s cool enough for me. Let’s hope the flip side becomes the trend. Below is an interesting history of this soon to be famous breed.

According to the American Kennel club, The Portuguese Water Dog or Cao de Agua – once existed all along Portugal’s 500 mile Atlantic coast, where herded fish into the nets, retrieved lost tackle or broken nets, and worked as a courier from ship to ship, or ship to shore. Portuguese Water Dogs rode in cod boats as they worked their way from Ports like Aveiro, Peniche and Setubal to the waters off the coast of Iceland where the fleets caught codfish to salt and bring home. Cao means dog, de Agua means of water. In Portugal the breed dog is also known as the Portuguese Fishing Dog. Cao de Agua de Pelo Ondulado is the name given the long haired variety, and Cao de Ague de Pelo Encaradolado is the name for the curly-coat variety. Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy has two Portuguese water dogs.

America’s Greatest Dog! Did Your Favourite Take Home The Trophy?

Posted in Celebrities, Television with tags , , , , , , on September 12, 2008 by vegasrockdog1

Did you see the finale episode of America’s Greatest Dog?  Most dogs lovers that I know preferred watching this exciting and fun show over any other prime time show on a Wednesday evening.  Here at Vegas Rock Dog TM we were not the exception to the rule either. Although at times it was difficult to hear the show with the Vegas Rock Dogs TM Galaxy and Thornton barking at the screen. In dog speak they were probably cheering on their personal favourites. Both of our dogs got all kerfuffled at the sight of Preston the rock star! Maybe it was his rock ‘n’ roll hair and fly grooming…or possibly how smart he is. But behind every smart dog is in this case a smart woman with great intentions. This is where Laura Nativo steps in and if there ever was a role model for the America’s Greatest owner this is the one to follow.  If you were unfortunate enough to not catch the show you must at least find past episodes and wonder at the loyal, dedicated, and loving team that Preston and Laura made up. I think we should nick name them Lauston..or even Presra…aw come on let’s keep it Hollywood. I personally was inspired (and guilted) into committing more time to both the Vegas Rock Dogs after witnessing all things Lauston. In all honesty all teams were to be envied for their accomplishments and I’m predicting that many an American dog is getting that extra attention since their owners watched the show.  I personally met Laura and Preston and will be bringing you more news from team Lauston.  Pet ownership is on the rise and that’s a large portion of the viewing population so expect to see a pack of new pet focused shows emerging on your television set…the Vegas Rock Dogs will be watching closely.
