Unlocking the Secret to the LeashLocket

Posted in Charity, Donations, Gifts, Holiday Gifts, Pet Product Reviews, Safety with tags , , , , , , , on October 13, 2011 by vegasrockdog1

LeashLocket is unlike any dog leash I’ve ever seen before. The leash that doesn’t look like a leash holds a secret in its locket shape and that is a retractable leash. I know what you’re thinking, retractable leashes are nothing new…yet this leash offers you a unique function. Instead of you carrying the Leash Locket your dog carries it instead. This lightweight locket attaches to your dog’s collar with an innovative magnetic collar attachment and is also secured to the D ring. Now for someone who can build a flat pack piece of IKEA furniture with her eyes closed for some reason it took me having to ask my husband how to attach LeashLocket to the collar. The printed instructions didn’t show the steps clearly enough for me, they only showed the various parts of the LeashLocket. However once over that hurdle I got to see the benefits when we went on our first walk and visit to the dog park. It was certainly convenient to just grab and go without having to look for a leash. The leash fits in your hand and extends up to six feet in length and can withstand a force of 135 lbs. I would recommend purchasing the additional wrist strap in case you drop the leash.

My Thornton got the pleasure of using the LeashLocket which took her a while to get accustomed to. The LeashLocket she was trying out was the small size. She weighs 22lbs and I feel it was just a little too large for her collar. It was better suited to my Galaxy who is closer to 40lbs. I would like to see the company come out with a leash that the smaller breeds can wear as I feel it would be a popular size.

Walking with the LeashLocket was easy and going in and out of the dog park was even easier. My dogs get so excited when we go into the park that getting their leashes unclipped while they squirm and bark is not easy. It’s a simple and effective way to gain control of your dog, be it in a dog park or if you have a dog who is an escape artist. Although my dogs are no longer puppies it did present another use and that was potty training. I bet you can’t even count the amount of times that you clipped and unclipped your puppy to go outside to potty train.

The
LeashLocket comes in two different sizes and four different colours. It’s convenient, fits in your hand, offers you many benefits and this innovative and caring company helps abused and neglected pets through every sale.

So why not grab your conventional leash and walk on over to their site and pick up the LeashLocket that you dog gets to carry.

There’s Something Magical About Puppy Dust

Each year Super Zoo lands in Vegas and we make the short 15 minute drive into the Las Vegas Strip to see what is new in the pet industry. We get a chance to say to hello to friends who come in for the show and also to connect with people that we frequently chat to on our social media network.

Super Zoo has it all, covering food, treats, clothing, training aids, beds, and more. I particularly like to take a look at the new product area first to see what’s new and innovative and then make my way around the convention.

I saw a few items that I liked this year and one of them was Puppy Dust. Cute name and very cute packaging. Patrice the creator of Puppy Dust was there to inform us of this treat that you shake and dust over your dog’s food. It’s not only a treat but a fun way of getting your dog excited about dinner time. Your dog will soon make the connection between the shake shake shake of the can and then the yumminess to follow. So like a good pet owner I took the two samples home, did a little reading as I choose to give my dogs healthy food and treats and then tried it out with Galaxy and Thornton. Well to say they thoroughly enjoyed it is an understatement….if there was a pattern on their bowls they would have licked it off! They loved both flavours equally and looked at me when the bowl was empty wishing for it to fill up again and that’s what I would call the magic of Puppy Dust.

Puppy Dust comes in two all natural delicious flavours.

Peanut Butter & Honey ~ Ingredients: oat flour, rolled oats, peanut butter, honey, flax, canola oil, egg, baking powder.

Bacon Cheddar Cheese ~ Ingredients: oat flour, rolled oats, bacon, cheddar cheese, flax, canola oil, eggs, baking powder.

So grab your leash and walk on over to Puppy Dust where you can purchase
this Galaxy and Thornton approved product.

Heat Kills

20110720-084008.jpg

Today was one of the hottest days we’ve had this Summer in Las Vegas. It was heavy and simply scorching. As it gets warmer in Vegas we start to drastically modify the outdoor activities for our dogs Galaxy and Thornton. Their health and safety is always a priority. Some days early in the morning or late at night we give the girls a short walk, other days there’s none. You can never underestimate the dangers of heat and that leads me to dogs in cars. Your car is an oven. Now if someone asked you to put your dog in an oven you would be outraged. It’s cruel and it’s deadly. So, why is that every Summer we hear of too many dogs left in cars without air conditioning and water, all while the owner grocery shops, visits the post office, and runs errands?
I for one am not a stranger to frantically trying to find the owner of a dog locked in a baking hot car. My first call is to the police as it always an emergency when you come across a dog in a hot car. Invariably the owner shows up and says my dog’s okay I was only gone a few minutes….and that’s where the danger comes in. A few minutes can mean the difference between life and death.
Why is there a disconnect towards dogs in cars when we know the minute we sit in our cars we find it unbearable for ourselves? This we may never know the answer to as it happens year after year. But without getting technical of how hot it gets the message is simple, HEAT KILLS! So how do we get the message out there? I would like to see a campaign of continuous public service announcements on television during the Summer months as a constant reminder to pet owners. These announcements should include the information that it is a crime in Nevada to leave your pet in your car. The statute states 574.195 states “a person shall not allow a cat or dog to remain unattended in a parked or standing motor vehicle during a period of extreme heat or cold or in any other manner that endangers the health or safety of the cat or dog”.
Currently it is a misdemeanor which I would like to see changed to a felony charge.
Other methods to disseminate information are through emails, newsletters, blog posts, social media, and visual aids in public areas. If we can collectively take a minute to share this info I truly believe we can make this a high profile message of great value and save lives.

Our British Adventure

We’ve been quiet for a few weeks due to a fabulous trip that we took back to England. It was a family visit with a charity event and lots of fun thrown in for good measure. The only downside to our visit was that we didn’t travel with our dogs Galaxy and Thornton. So we decided to give them their own vacation with Kym’s Kritter Kare. Kym is wonderful and without her we would have never fully enjoyed our trip. With email and photo updates from Kym we felt very connected to them the entire time that we were away.

20110627-092730.jpg
Once I landed in England I was met by my family and whisked back to Sheffield to get a quick shower and head out to a rehearsal for the Zumbathon event that me and two of my sisters were holding. My sisters and I teach Zumba and the Zumbathon was planned to raise money for Neurocare and Cash for Kids. We had also asked attendees to donate pet supplies to benefit the Sheffield RSPCA. It was lovely to be able to do something for my hometown pet rescue facility.
20110627-093751.jpg

Our venue was the Sheffield City Hall and simply spectacular. We couldn’t have had a nicer staff to work with and as you can see from the photo below we had an incredible attendance. The two hour event went so quickly and the atmosphere was electrifying. To be able to perform with my sisters was so much fun and I can’t wait to do it again. We raised 1,920 pounds and collected a lot of pet supplies.

20110627-093202.jpg

I had been in touch with the Sheffield RSPCA prior to the event and was really excited to be able to meet Steve and the staff, deliver the supplies, and tour the facility. Impressed doesn’t even come close to how I feel about the facility and what they do for the animals that come in. The dogs have a two part kennel with the front of the kennel allowing them to get fresh air and look outside and then the rear of the kennel is inside the building. The floors are heated and they have their beds and toys for comfort. We saw some of the dogs and there was one in particular who caught our eye and that was Piglet. She had come in with mange and red raw skin. Oh she was cute and I was half expecting my husband to want to take her back to Vegas with us. She looked so healthy. The tour was interesting and it was nice for me and my family to be there together. The facility boasts kennels for the dogs, a maternity ward for the cats, an agility course, event space, shop, and an operating room.

20110627-100351.jpg

The Sheffield RSPCA is clean, bright, and welcoming. If ever feel it would upset you to go and look at the animals needing homes please put that concern aside. Once you see this great place and the care these animals get you will be so happy that the Sheffield RSPCA exists. I have to say it was one of the highlights of my trip. It left me wanting to get back to England to do more for them.

Every time I go home I love to see as much history as possible. We visited so many places and one thing I did notice no matter what city we were in was that the Jack Russell and Springer Spaniel were popular breed amongst others.

20110627-101813.jpg

Every time we saw a dog we were reminded how much we missed our own dogs and I have to say we had my sister’s dogs as a comfort. Below is Princess Madonna she slept with us every night. This trip was so memorable I cannot wait to get back.

I’m going to close this post with a few photos of our trip….enjoy!

Travel Like A Pup Star

Posted in Travel on April 7, 2011 by vegasrockdog1

The Pet-Only Airline!

Travelling long distance by plane with your dog is difficult particularly if your dog is over the cabin weight requirements. I would never put my dogs in the hold of a plane. If I can’t access my dogs during the flight then it’s not a method of transportation that I’d be comfortable with. Pets are transported in the same cargo hold as baggage and this area is not ventilated, heated, cooled, or pressurized in the same manner as the cabin. These factors for me personally do not add up to a safe environment for my dogs to travel in.  There are also guidelines for weather conditions, should it be extremely hot or cold some airlines will not fly your pet, and then there are  flight delays to contend with and your pet will be in the hold during this time.

So what other options do you really have aside from driving to your destination or leaving your dog behind? Well, there’s good news…PetAirways can be your answer to travelling like a pup star. This airline is specifically for your pet…not you…but your pet. They get to travel in a way that we would be envious of.  Your pet’s journey starts with you dropping your pet off at the Pet Lounge and once in the care of  the Pet Attendant they stay with them the entire trip until they reach their destination. They are given regular potty breaks prior to boarding and once your pet boards the plane it’s made comfortable and secure. This service is top-notch and every 15 minutes the attendant checks on your pet so that they can monitor how they’re doing during the flight. After landing your pet disembarks and is given another potty break and then they meet you at Pet Lounge. This type of travel for your pet is truly luxurious.

Currently PetAirways offer flights to these cities, Atlanta, Baltimore/Washington, Chicago, Denver, Fort Lauderdale, Hawthorne/Los Angeles, New York, Omaha, and Phoenix and flights start at $99.

Prior to travel you will need to visit the PetAirways site and take a look at their checklist. This will ensure that your pet is fully prepared before take off.

I can’t think of a better way for your pet to travel where they are looked after in a very special way and gives us as a pet owners absolute peace of mind. Grab your leash and walk on over to their site for more details.

Let’s Get Tied Up!

Photography by Unleashed Pet Photography

Recently we added a new fashion item to our Vegas Rock Dog line. We knew it would be a popular item but had no idea how popular. There are many dogs who love to dress up and many dogs that prefer accessories over clothing. Well it seems that we’ve caught the attention of all dogs who would call themselves doganistas!

What is this fashion piece that has become a challenge for us to keep in stock? It’s the “BARK N ROLL” necktie!

The “BARK N ROLL” necktie comes in a very large range of colours and designs and in three lengths. 5″, 7″, and 10″.  Another great feature is that the neckties slide straight onto your dog’s own collar. This way your dog can still use it’s good, secure collar and be hip and cool.

Each week we add new designs and colours and our four-legged customers are buying many of our “BARK ‘N’ ROLL” ties to add to their fashion arsenal.

In the coming days we’ll be adding a new collection to our “BARK N ROLL” neckties.  The inspiration for this new line came from my British heritage and my love for my Queen, Queen Elizabeth II and the upcoming royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. The new name of this line is ”BARKINGHAM PALACE”. Look for damask patterns, wedding colours, royal crowns, royal guards, double-decker buses, and the British Union Jack Flag!

You + Dog + Photography = Helping Elijah

Posted in Adoption, celebrations, Charity, Donations, Events, Gifts, Pet Photography, Rescues, Specials on February 17, 2011 by vegasrockdog1

As many of you know I have incredible friends in the dog world and I wanted to tell you of one such friend. Claudine is the owner of Unleashed Las Vegas Pet Photography and boy does she have a love for Papillions, so much so that she is heavily involved in the rescue of these adorable dogs with the ever so pretty butterfly ears.  She is a talent beyond when it comes to pet photography and this month she is bringing a charitable element to her mini sessions for a handsome boy who is in need of surgery. The handsome boy in question is Elijah, he needs surgery for a broken leg. It has yet to be determined whether he will keep his leg but he will still need surgery no matter what the veterinarian decides is best for him.

As part of Claudine’s mini sessions on Feb 26th, $25 of your fee will be donated to Elijah’s surgery.  Claudine is taking reservations for her mini sessions and once you visit her site I know you will be eager to book your own session.  For those of you who wish to make a direct donation to Elijah please use this Chipin Link http://claudine.chipin.com/eli

As you well know sharing information is what helps us reach a bigger audience and if you can take a moment to share Elijah’s story with your family and friends he would greatly appreciate it and I’m sure his butterfly ears would flutter.

Claudine is a proud member of Hearts Speak an organization where artists work together to promote deeper understanding for the voiceless.

How wonderful it is that Elijah has a friend in Claudine.
